How to Connect Cisco 2960 Switch to Cisco 2600 Router

Connecting a Cisco 2960 switch to your Cisco 2600 wireless router enables you to expand your wired network of four possible computers to a wired network of seven possible computers. Computers which are hardwired to the network via Ethernet cabling experience a regular reference to the web, whereas wireless computers often lose connection intermittently. By expanding the network to incorporate additional LAN connections, you are able to grow your network without taxing the bandwidth open to the computers connected wirelessly.


Turn the Cisco 2960, Cisco 2600 and the web modem off by pulling the ability adapters from the electrical outlets. Inspect cabling between your Internet modem and the Cisco 2600 wireless router. Both are associated with one Ethernet cable. Ensure one end of the cable is connected to the Ethernet port on the modem and another end of the cable is connected to the WAN port of the wireless modem. Plug another Ethernet cable in to LAN port 1 on the rear of the Cisco 2600 wireless router. Plug another end of the Ethernet cable to the WAN port on the right back of the Cisco 2960 switch. Connect one Ethernet cable to the LAN ports of the Cisco 2960 switch for every computer you wish to hardwire to your network. Connect another end of every cable to the Ethernet port on the computers. Plug the web modem in and wait 60 seconds for this to switch on. Plug the Cisco 2600 wireless router in and wait 60 seconds for the router to completely switch on. Plug the Cisco 2960 switch in and wait 60 seconds for this to switch on.
